55 Minutes of relaxing easy listening music The sinking of the SS Atlantic on April 1, 1873 remains one of the biggest ocean disasters in Atlantic Canada. More then 125 years later, the tragedy is still remembered in Terence Bay, Nova Scotia. The SS Atlantic was a passenger and cargo steamship owned by White Star Line, the unfortunate company that built the Titanic. On March 20th, 1873 the Atlantic left Liverpool, England bound for New York. The ship was carrying a crew of 141 and 811 passengers. 277 people are buried in the St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery in Terence Bay, NS. 156 people are buried in the Star of the Sea Church Cemetery. The bodies of the rest are lost at sea or buried elsewhere. The SS Atlantic itself still remains on the ocean floor off the coast of Terence Bay NS.
